Cascade Relief Team Joins Forces with CFWK and The American Red Cross to Tornado Shelters

*October 1, 2023* – In the wake of the devastating December 2021 tornadoes, Cascade Relief Team has proudly partnered with CFWK and The American Red Cross to extend a helping hand to individuals residing in FEMA-recognized counties eligible for individual assistance from the December 2021 tornadoes.

Understanding the immediate need for safety during such unprecedented times, the collaboration aims to provide tornado shelters to those affected by the tornadoes. "Protection and preparedness are key during natural disasters. By providing tornado shelters, we aim to make vulnerable communities safer in the face of future adversities," said Marc Brooks from Cascade Relief Team.

Eligibility and Application Process:

While preference may be given to those affected by the tornadoes, *everyone* eligible counties can apply, irrespective of whether you've received aid in the past or survived the tornado.

Qualifying Factors include, but are not limited to:

  • The applicant must be the residential homeowner.

  • An income assessment which is capped at 80% of the Area Median Income.

  • Disabilities that hinder an individual's ability to travel to a community shelter.

The deadline for applications is October 31, 2023. so we encourage all to apply.

Tornado Shelter Options:

Beneficiaries of this initiative will have the following Tornado shelter choices:

1. In-ground shelter located in the garage.

2. In-ground shelter located outside the residence.

3. Safe room. (based on physical qualifications and need) Please note that with the safe room option, placement will either be in a garage or outside.

There will be no remodeling to fit the safe room within an existing residence.
